Not much more to say. Fred and green got it. But that Cummins wound let you down how the rest of the truck? Where is it from? If a dry climate no snow or salt it shave fine. It’s all depends on who your getting it from. If you know the trucks history. If it was taken care of probably it could be a somewhat reliable plow truck. But it could also be a money pit. That’s the trick with old trucks. Good luck.
I am for plowing with the older trucks. I used to plow with an 85 Chevy. People would say, why such and old truck. I would say, it's paid for and I don't worry about scratching it (i did a lot of drives that had these bushes that hung over and made nice designed scratches). It has heat, radio wipers and plows great. Albeit I broke the frame in half at the shock towers, both sides. Not a biggie, fixed it in a day. Beat the pants off of that thing.
Great plow truck. Last generation with old school axles, np205 gear driven transfer case and that great cummins. So good I am looking for one to go with my 74 w300 with 89 cummins. Good luck with her.
I understand what your saying. 74 is a classic to me. I guess if you live somewhere they don't lay down salt heavily and not rot the body out it would be okay, Rot even putting new metal will haunt you in NY in a rather short time. The Mechanics can always be fixed.
Buy that 91 if it has good bones. The sheetmetal just needs to pass inspection. Plus if we dent or scratch our trucks it is ok. That is why they made rustoleum. Lol. Plus how can you beat the MPG on a 12 valve. And they don't call them million mile motors for nothing. I am always looking for a 72-93 and really want a 89-93 6bt but they go for crazy money.
So my second generation Rams have been great plow trucks.
The blue one is a 96 1500 V8. 318.. what a work horse. Plows with the Heart of a 3/4 ton
The black one is a 99 3500 dually.
Last year I dropped a rebuilt 360 in it. 3000 cost. But that still is way less then monthly payments on a new 60k truck..
