This year I want to take advantage of some of the cost savings of buying salt in bulk.

Around here bagged salt goes for .06 / lb and bulk is .03...

Where do you guys store your salt during the winter? Our facility leaves us with endless possibilities for storage.

Our city has a large dome/cone structure that it is kept in, and a lot of companies around here build mafia block containment box with a arched canvas top to it.

How much are you looking to store?

I agree with MCW. My buddy did it like this. He made it out of the mafia blocks, with 3 sides. About 4 or 5 feet off the ground and he put one of those car port things over it, the one with the sides. It must hold about 5-8 yards give or take. He made 3 of them, one he uses for his plows and spreaders in the off season. He has no other building to store them in just an office trailer.

Mafia block for walls with a portable car port on top of it. Smaller bins just get a tarp. Ours holds 75 tons worth that sits on site.

If you have contracts lined up for the following season, just tell the customer that you got a great deal on salt and you will pass that saving down to them when you service their facility. Of course we only store it on our large sites, like around the back of the site, or somewhere away from the building where no one parks. You couldn't store the salt on like a small restaurant parking lot.

Are mafia blocks the same thing as big concrete legos? Alos anyone try storing in a shipping container, if so how do you load/unload the salt?

Mafia blocks are the lego thing. There are a few on here that use shipping containers. You would need a bobcat or a loader of some sort to load and unload.
