I never used a walk behind .... I assume they work via some kind of gear from the wheels that drive the spinner.

What keeps the wheels from just slipping and not turning (and not driving the spinner) on ice or even slippery conditions?

    Thanks ...........

The cheaper one with the plastic wheels will slide. The more expensive ones with the rubber tires work much better but will sometimes slide on ice with a full hopper.
