i recently put a new alternator and dual batteries in my 79 ford. Do i need to replace the existing voltage regulator to get the most out of the alternator?

After running Fords for many years i learned not to mess with Ford alternators as they are junk IMO. Put a 105 amp GM alternator on it and never look back, you will even see the amp gauge work when you do this.

Get the heavy duty one. If you upgraded the out put don't forget to use a bigger gage wire to feed the batteries. Make sure all the grounds are clean and protect with dielectric grease.

You may also want to get a battery isolater so that way if one battery goes bad it won't drain the second one.
