Clean that cavity out and smear some grease in it.
No sharp bends in the cables. The cables are also where the ground current goes when you operate the plow.
There is alittle three finger brass part in the controller that makes the contact, I have seen them break.
I still have them, somewhere. Also have a brand new Western controller/cable assembly in stock, collecting dust.

Yes I learned about how to take care of that setup. I had a truck that I would pull the mount,pump and lights off every spring and reinstall every fall. I know sounds like a lot but wasn’t really that bad. In doing so I had to disconnect and reconnect those cables and adjust!
First plow I worked on was one of those, to say I was confused would be correct.
