I realize when its really cold the salt freezes up at times, but these things seem so tempermental, sometimes they can't restart site to site, and no way to kick start them.

Im contemplating welding a 13/16" nut on the end of the pin on back so we can use a breaker bar and socket to crank it to start. Sucks, only hot water running into the bottom seems to losen it up to free everything to start. Salt constantly jams up in that bottom slide out tray, that literally just likes to hold salt in there to ice up fast when its cold, since the whole bottom is stainless steel like most v boxes are.

Were also still using salt dogg v boxes on some trucks and a swenson 4.5 yard mdv electric and all don't have the jamming issues with the feeder than the boss vbx has been having.

One vbx jams more than the other, actually the one we've used half the amount of the other. Both were bought in Dec 2013 and Jan 2014.

ours has the auger, but we were having trouble initially too. sometimes it would turn on, sometimes it wouldn't. what we found out was the oil that they used would get too cold, so boss changed the oil, free of charge of course. that cured the problem, has been great ever since. it's a bulletin from boss, check into it if you haven't already

it was definitely a temperature thing, the colder it was the more issues it had

We are running one with the auger this season with correct oil and haven't had a single problem.
