Had to put a new transmission in our 2002 f250 diesel with 200,000 mi. on it after 6 years of plowing. The mechanic strongly recommend that the Trans. cooler be replaced and the lines flushed.Does this seem like a necessary repair.
We are not real mechanically knowledgeable so we went with it.

Seems like a good idea for that truck. The cooler was probably full of crap from the age and depending on how the transmission went, possibly metal.

Flushing the lines should be part of a trans swap and replacing cooler is a the best thing to do. You can never get all the debris out no matter how much you try. Also have them add a quart of Lucas trans treatment, its great stuff helps keep temps down, keep everything clean and lubes, well worth the extra $12
