I have been having a problem with my stakes going missing at a condo that I plow. The ones beside the city sidewalk go missing most often on the week-ends. I don't think it is anybody that lives ine the condo I suspect it is just kids walking by on the sidewalk. I have had to replaced them 5-6 times already this year and I'm getting sick of it. Today I smeared the new stakes with axle grease so next time they grab one they are going to get a mitt full of smelly grease. Do you guys think this might stop my stakes from going missing?

I have a parking lot where a few of my stakes keep being taken .. im thinking of using rebar painting em orange and wiring em to the transformer in the lot.

These are a favorite of kids walking to and from the bus stop. you have enough of them, and it is good for a fresh sword fight every morning. I love the idea of the grease, though!

I really like the idea of using grease also, I once contemplated using a bi - product from my dogs butt :D

Ha ha ha ha, yeah that will teach um. I had a similar problem a few years back, I just happend to drive by one day and caught the kids in action......I had sidewalk help for 5 storms, free of charge. I almost wish they would do it again. I'm sick of paying the high school kid with a mouth.

I was thinking of using the silver anti-seize grease, you know the stuff that you can never get off your hands. I'm sure their mommy will love trying to get out of their clothing.

That's pretty funny, cuz it doesn't come off. I just had a visual of a kid getting smacked across the back in his new snow boarding jacket that he just got for Christmas w/ silver streaks everywhere...

When in doubt, use the poopy dollar method. I had that problem at one of my accounts, then I smeared dog crap on them. I found one laying down, but not missing. no problems since.

That stuff is the worst to try and get off. I always seem to get it everywhere when I use it.

I have enough now, I won't take anymore, LOL.

There are some expensive ones at the LCBO in Aurora and I can't believe they haven't been taken yet. They were there last year and they are back again. They are the tall orange ones that flex if you hit them.

If you need the stakes so badly you didn't have to steal them, I will lend them to you for the winter. You can return them in the spring when you do the parking lot sweeping at the condo.

I have stakes disappear from time to time as well. Ticks me off! The other day I was driving through a subdivision and saw a couple kids kicking over and breaking all the stakes marking the sidewalk. I stopped in the middle of the road and put my window down.... kids looked over with the "oh crap Im busted" look, and I simply told them "I would not do that if I were you". They said ok and I drove away. They probably knocked the rest of them down as soon as I was gone!

    smashed stakes

I drove down the road I plow and counted the missing stakes. (8-10) So i went back home to get replacements a 1 mile drive. Buy the time I got back another 8 smashed into the ground? I got out of the truck and saw footprints in the snow on top of the stakes. KIDS! Called the subdivision president and he sent a letter out. No more smashed stakes. I think the grease would be a lot more fun!

I think the grease is the best idea yet. Dog crap is unsanitary and if one those kids comes down really sick you will feel bad. Electricity is against the law and to be honest I wouldn't be able to sleep at night worrying about an old man bumping into one by accident. I know I don't touch anything with grease on it unless I absolutely have to. They get grease on there hands once from your markers they will never touch another marker as long as they live. The anit-seize would be great for catching them since it would act kinda like a dye packet the banks use.

If it's on the weekends, it's probably not younger kids, but college age kids walking home from the bars.

well hopefully they get some fiberglass slivers in their hands. Put them in deep enough they have to grip and pull really hard. I try to put them in right before the ground freezes to reduce the time they can be easily pulled out. I like the anti seize idea too.

I was there doing the snow this morning and 2 stakes were gone again. I'm going to try the silver stuff on the new stakes.
