i have a 1979 k 20. i was backing out of a drivway the other day and i went to turn the wheel and heard a loud pop then the steering wheel spun freely so i got it home and checked it and something snapped in the steering box. now for the question what years are interchangable for these steering boxes?

Many guys think that 73-87 box's are all the same but their not...

To be an exact swap with your '79 your gonna need one from a '77, '78 or '79.

'80 and newer will work, but the line's will need to be swapped over to the O-ring type lines from the flare type your truck will have now..
(which will also require a fitting change on the back of the pump for the pressure hose)

'76-back will bolt right on but their a much slower, constant ratio box.

Box has to be a 4X4 also.. 2WD boxes are different.

1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton doesn't matter though..
