SnowEx unveils the V-Maxx Salt-Traxx™digital job tracker, a new tool designed to help snow and ice management professionals document and evaluate their salt spreading applications. It simply plugs into the existing controller on select SnowEx V-Maxx spreaders and records important data, such as the amount of salt used and time spent on each job.

To use the Salt-Traxx, the operator first selects the pre-set job number for a specific client or property. After the job is started, the unit measures the total amount of salt being spread according to the V-Maxx controller settings and time elapsed. The data is displayed on a digital read-out and also saved to a standard removable USB memory stick. When finished, the operator can plug the memory stick into a personal computer and upload the information in a format compatible with Microsoft™ Excel™. The spreadsheet shows the date, number of starts and stops, time elapsed, and cubic feet of salt used under each job number.

The technology behind Salt-Traxx eliminates the need to write down information by hand on the jobsite. It also gives contractors and other winter maintenance professionals a new ability to evaluate their operations and maximize efficiency. The data helps for billing clients and deciding how much salt to purchase from season to season. Furthermore, it provides documentation for reducing liability in the event of a slip-and-fall claim.

“The Salt-Traxx device provides a new, affordable business evaluation tool for contractors,” said Mark Hall, director of marketing and sales for SnowEx. “Now, they can be more efficient than ever with their V-Maxx spreaders.”

The Salt-Traxx is compatible with both new and existing models of the following V-Maxx spreaders: SP-8500, SP-9300, SP-9500, SP-2200 and SP-2400. The unit comes standard with a two-year warranty.

Sounds like an awesome tool to add to the arsenal, we will be purchasing a Vmaxx spreader with this module for this winter. Hopefully this will make our bidding more accurate for the future.

This is not a stupid question. However, the Salt-Traxx is only compatible with SnowEx V-Maxx spreaders (except model SP-7550). The controllers for V-Maxx spreaders have a special port for the Salt-Traxx to plug into (the same port used for PWS sprayers). Additionally, the Salt-Traxx is only calibrated for SnowEx spreaders.

    I'd assume the sp- 7550 is a snow-ex v-maxx 7550 1.5 ton salt spreader?

Im kinda pissed off now, cause I got a 8500 and a 7550... I planned on buying 2 of these... I know the controller on the 7550 is a lot smaller then the 8500... do you guys plan on making one compatable for the 7550?

Sooo it is either this or the PWS system at one time eh! If that is the case are they coming up with a solution for that?

Yes, the SP-7550 is the V-Maxx 7550 spreader. Because the 7550 controller doesn’t contain the required data port, we weren’t able to make the Salt-Traxx compatible with this unit. It would require a different solution, which hasn’t been developed yet. Unfortunately, I don’t have a project timeline for you either.

In the meantime, I hope you find success this winter using one with your 8500!

Actually, we’ve heard many requests to give V-Maxx spreaders the ability to use the Salt-Traxx and integrate with PWS sprayers at the same time. So we developed a solution to make this work. Now, you can plug a PWS sprayer into a data port on the Salt-Traxx and then connect the Salt-Traxx to the V-Maxx controller. Although the Salt-Traxx can’t currently record the amount of liquid sprayed, the PWS will integrate with the V-Maxx and spray according to the material feed rate.

I have the 9500 and the 8500 is the unit compatible with both of these, Does it calculate weight ? or cubic yards of materials? How accurate is it ?

Yes, the Salt-Traxx is compatible with both the 9500 and 8500, and it calculates how many cubic feet of material have been spread. Plus, you can calibrate the unit for the exact type of material you’re spreading, so it is very accurate. In fact, it’s given us correct measurements on all our tests, no matter what types of material we use with it.
