Is there a potential for salts to build up under a patio and to keep it wet? I would be especially concerned with calcium chloride build up because it draws moisture to it. We put together a patio with a fountain in the middle and I was wondering if reguler applications of sidewalk deicing salt would harm the sub-base? Would is eventually seep down through the joints and build up in the sub-base thus keeping it wet in the future and exposing it to freeze that which would make it heave? My take is if this customer wants to keep the memorial area mint for the long term I would not deice it but I wanted to see what you guys think. Thanks for the input!
