Is anybody doing anything about a surcharge of some sort, or anything like this, to put in contracts? Wondering what others might be doing and if there is a trend that the industry is going with. Just looking to address the rapidly increasing prices and decreasing availability

yes, we are adding about 20% to salt application rates.
our price for treated material went up 72% over last year.
the 20% covers our additional material cost.
    labor stays the same.
we also added covered storage for our pile to help protect it.

Thanks for the insight matt-max. We are doing about the same and almost 20% higher this year with increased salt prices. I wanted to include something that covers us though if prices continue to rise. Any thoughts on that?

Get as much as you feel you can without losing the Client.

Some clients will understand and pay and others will balk and go elsewhere.

Really comes down to your connection and communication with them.

We've done a few things to cut our costs especially for sidewalks and smaller melt only jobs for our hitch mount spreaders. 10 gallon Rubbermaid trash cans with lids filled with treated bulk salt instead of bags. New building for Covered storage to keep supply dry.

Need to come up with an ideal way to spread melt on walks still though.
