    I use rock salt......the customers sign off on any surface damage that may occur......

    "Residential" is too broad. There are times when regular rock salt would be the more appropriate response or treatment, but other instances where you're going to want to avoid the corrosion or skin irritation. There will even be times when it's more appropriate to have straight sand rather than salt. Temperatures will also affect the use of salt or pellets. You really need to become familiar with the characteristics of every tool at your disposal to choose the right one for the situation at the moment.
