My uncle had gotten rid of his Avalanche box last season because he was running someone else's machine. This year he's back in his machine but cant justify spending $5g on a new box.
He picked up an old 10' highway plow and some steel and made his own.
    Project build cost: $1200

The box wings are hinged at the bottom and will sit level no matter what angle the bucket is at. Also wings are not welded to the top of the blade so that the blade can full trip as needed and the wings stay upright and level. Not sure if that makes sense, any questions just ask.

Those pins in the bottom look like they will be getting replaced every so-often....Are ya gonna keep a few extra in the cab for the odd chance they wear/break? Good idea with the sides always being level, looks like it will definately work. Are you gonna be able to angle the blade when the sides are off?

Way to be creative, looks good. How do the wings attach at the top? If the blade doesn't angle, how will stay in place?

looks great, i am really impressed, the wings are going to be a weak point, but i understand why you did it like that, i am in the process of building my own snow push, and am wondering how to get it to trip with the wings, i think i have it worked out, if you have a minute pm me i would like to run the ideas by you

Im sure he'll keep a couple spare. The blade can be angled with or without the sides on. He took the pistons off, so its now a manual angle. Im sure it will rarely be used an angle plow.
The wings dont attach at the top of the blade. Theres a cable that goes from the wings back to the bucket which allows the wings to float freely no matter what angle the blade is at. Ill get some more pics sometime this week.

Looks nice but I have my doubts about durability. If the operator is gentle I'm sure it will last a while. I'll be interested in seeing how it holds up over the winter. Hope it works well for you.

Thanks Dave. Its not the first box he's built. He ran a fleet of 7 tractors for 20 years with boxes built identical to that. Ill be sure to keep you updated during the season...if it snows lol.

The box looks great. Glad I joined this site this year. I am in the process of making my own box to go on a Cat 426. Have the old plow already. How does it work out for you? Did you have to brace the sides to the mow board of the plow? I was going to weld the sides to the plow.

Welcome to the site. The sides arent welded to the mold board because they are full floating and ride level no matter what angle the blade is at.
