I have been working on rebuilding my 99' Power v plow, Now i've gotten to the blades, stripped everything off, and as you know, the backside of the blades are boxed in. I haven't cut the boxing off yet, there is definitely rust underneath, and some holes in the boxing. Does anyone have opinions of the structural content of the boxing? Could the boxing be cut off permanent? Obviously that's just a crap catcher that speeds up rusting. Did they do away with that in later models?

Cut off the box and X brace the same area with 1/4 X 1 steel, heated and formed to the curvature of the blade.

Good idea. I'll do it and hopefully post a photo or two.
