I have used Western all my life-and so has everyone else I know-great plows-We still have one at work that has been plowing the lot for 28 years and we do absolutely no maintenance at all to it-just keeps going. But with Western comes an issue -they rust immediately due to sheets of paint flaking off and I am getting lazy in my older years (37-ouch) I am considering a Western again, but dont like having a new truck and a rusty but trusty plow and I dont feel like painting the plow every year to make it look presentable. So I am looking at Snow Dogg EX 85 or Air Flo Quicksilver for a hopefully maintenance free setup on a GMC 3500. Does anyone have any input on these plows-reliability, problems, maintenance, plow hookup-dismount, rust on mounts, etc?

I have a VX 8'6" the v blade. Snow dogg's are just unbelievable. They have the largest hydro cylinders on the market. You will not be disappointed thats for sure.

I put an hd75 on my truck this fall I haven't got to plow with it yet but the plow is very impressive I can't wait for it to snow and try it out.

I have seen both SnowDogg and Air-Flow plows side by side. The both look heavy duty.

SnowDogg, and for the best price check Equipment Specialist on this site. The price difference is a no brainer.

I love my snow dogg plows I looked at the air flow plow and didn't like the idea of stainless steel ribs and the power unit made in china to many miss match parts from all the plow companys like the old AMC cars. Stainless is not a strong metal to make frame work out of the mold board is fine i have heard that the air flow cracks after some use. The snow dogg is all made in the USA also ussmileyflag

Air-Flo's 11 ga. stainless is plenty beefy enough and maintenance free. They both make good stuff. Despite an earlier post, however, I always understood Buyers to farm out technical components to China. It's how they regularly beat OEM's parts pricing. The quality is always suspect. Buyers is normally very cagey about the origin of their components and their specs. But most regular users know you get what you pay for when you're buying price.

Air-Flo is owned and operated in the US. I think they're using Monarch, which is consistent with most major plow manufacturers. Their quality is very good, but they have fewer applications.

    Both make good stuff.

The Doggs run the Monarch pumps as well, so they have just the same as any other plow. Im sure it has some china parts, but I guarantee some parts on other plows may be the same way

Although it is true that a lot of the SAMS parts from buyers are made in China it is not true about the Snowdogg. The valves are made by Hydoforce (same as Western) and the unit was custom built just for this plow. The Air Flo is a heavy plow but the question is how much support do you get from the manufacture and with Air Flo it is very little so your dealer will have his hands tied when trying to help you. With Snowdogg the manufacture support is there. Scott Moorman the engineering Manager for Snowdogg evens moniters this web site and helps people out when they have questions that cannot be answered by the local dealers. As for the older Western plow it is true that they had a paint problem but that has been corrected, they now powdercoat the blade and the rusting issue has been eliminated.
