New 6.0 power a disapointment

    Just bought a new dump truck with a 6 liter 360hp. It has a 6sp auto and a 4.10 rear end. I fully expected it to pull my 10k trailer better than the p/u. I have a 00 2500 also with a 6.0 with 300 stock hp, 3.73 rear end and 4sp auto. Both trucks pull a load about the same. My dmax dump kicks butt by comparison to these two.

    I had a 99 2500 Silverado for a while. My previous truck was a TBI 454. I was very disappointed in the 6.0. Others say they have plenty of power.

    Dont compare HP when It comes to towing. That Dmax has about 650ft and probably an Allison behind it design to tow. That 6.0 will never come close to a Dmax it has maybe 400ft and a regular tranny, As for the 454 that motor was a monster low end torque engine that could tow great. not to mention a big block. Both are Apples to oranges. You would have to compare teh 8.1 to 454 to come close to low end power not a 6.0.

    For some reason the C.C. trucks have about 310hp but the pick-ups have the 360hp,so 50hp less will make the difference.

    The extra mass of the dump truck over your pickup is probably not helping matters.

    I'm kind of wondering how you got 3.73 in a 3/4 ton. All the ones I've ever seen are 4.10's.

    Yeah the 2000 Silverado 2500's with the 6.0 were only available with 4.10's. The 5.3 in the 2500 had the 3.73's. You can never compare the 6.0 gas to the 6.6 DMax/Ally combo. And that dumptruck weighs alot more than a pickup so there you go. And I thought the engines in the dumps were always neutered somewhat from the pick ups

    I had a 99 New body style 6.0 3/4 ton w/ 3:73's I LOVED that truck!!!

    Yeah the 09's you have the option of 3.73 or 4.10. In the old light duty 2500 non HD's like we are talking about, made from 99-04, had the 4.10s behind the 6.0. Unless it was special optioned with the 3.73s, that is how they came otherwise

    I didn't know that about the 3/4 only coming with the 4.10. I know there's no comparison between the duramax and the 6.0. I was hoping that the extra hp and 2 extra cogs would improve response and acceleration.
