I have an 8.5 hp motor on my Western V Box salt spreader.. Its time for the motor to be replaced, would going with a higher 17hp motor make a real difference?

your motor is only as good as your clutch.

The more hp you have the more likley you are going to break stuff.

It will make a tremendous difference. You will use three times as much fuel and will still get the same pattern. I have an 8.5 on my Henderson and a buddy has a 12 on a Swenson. He uses twice as much fuel and is a lot louder. I agree, more horses, more losses. Stick with the 8.5. JMHO!
