2 or 3 questions, guess we'll know when I get done with the post.

1. For guys that are running bagged Magic Salt, how / what are you spreading it with?

Well, guess it's just going to be the one question.

The other will be more like a statement.

I and a buddy have both tried it, and neither have had ANY results from it.

I spread it at the same rate that I'm getting results with my Lesco Quikmelt.

I figure if I'm not getting any results at that rate, why switch when the product is 2x's as much as I'm paying now for 50 lbs of quikmelt.

Any suggestions?

See, I'm just the opposite. I got no results w/ Lesco's melt unless I used it for pretreating. I use treated salt through my tailgate spreader because it keeps the melted stuff from freezing over night.

I don't use Magic but at the locations where we look after the sidewalks, if there is run off or small sections that need to be done there is Magic there for the tenants to use. It seems to work as well as the Clearlane we use. They use a pail to throw it from so they use quite a bit. At one of the sites when I do a car move the super uses a $200 fert. spreader and it works great. They use only bag Magic.

What's in Lesco besides salt?
You know what???

I can't tell you.

It used to be listed on Lesco's Website, but now all it says is Quik-Melt, MN only with no MSDS or other labels.

The bag only says Potassium, Magnisium and "NOW Calcium Chloride" :)

Soooo..... I'd say it's a combo of those 3, but I'll have to do some more research and find out the percentages.

As far as Carcrz - I agree, I don't care for Lesco Melt, or especially Lesco Melt II, only this Quik-Melt, which looks like for some reason might only be available in MN now????

Right now I'm paying $8 / 50 bag, and Magic Salt ran me $15 from the only dealer here in MN.

And yes, I realize I could get by cheaper with bulk, but on a 'normal' year, I only run about 1.5-2 pallets and have to maintenance to equipment, since I just use a regular cheap walk behind speader to spread it.

You'll find most products contain mostly salt and very small% of other products. Plain old salt works the best in most cases. When your filling your spreader you can put 3 bags of salt and one of calcium or what ever you want. Come up with your own mix and save your money, it'll probably work better anyway and be cheaper. Most of these bagged ice melters are just gimmicks. I thought I'd stir the pot a bit. LOL

Gee thanks.... :p

Anyways, on a more serious note... I'll be doing a curb to curb tonight, and the 3 banks that I put it down before the snow, we'll put it down again after everything's been plowed.

Usually my Quikmelt will have a parking lot black after about 4 hours, if the weather holds out like it's supposed to tonight.

We'll give Magic Salt a try and time it out.

I've got enough accounts within 5 blocks of these banks that I can do them all and still be in the area and drive by seeing if / how long it takes for things to change.

I run bulk magic salt with a v-box this year. Last year I was using an under the tailgate spreader (now the back up) and a agri-fab walk behing spreader. Takes to much time to use the walk behind. If I have a side walk to do I now use a coffee can to spread. What do you mean you don't get any results? I used it last year when it was 0 out and it worked faster then the plain salt the town was using for a dusting of snow.
