was wondering if anyone could tell me what it takes to install LED tail lights...I am not very familiar with them but I am pretty sure there is an extra step that is involved, something along the lines of a resistor or something of that matter...

If you are buying a brand new led tail light kit with the housing and everything they usually have the resistors built into them. If you are building your own custom system than you need to do some math in order to figure out how many LEDS, what their operating voltage is, and than find resistors with the correct ohm values to bring it down to operating voltage. OR you can buy LED bulbs, they also have the resistors built in.
