I am brain storming for next year already. I was looking at the morton website, and was wondering how much salt on average you guys use. I dont think i am going to be doing a ton of commercials, but I would like a ball park figure how much I might need. How much is a ton of salt? In comparison to a yard. For instance, if I have a 3 yd sander, how many tons is that. Basically I am looking for a ton to yard formula. Thanks

Salt Cake @ 2430# per cubic yard
Coarse Salt@ 1350# per cubic yard
Fine Salt @ 2025# per cubic yard

Plan on about a ton per acre (46,000 sq ft)

I usually use 1 ton= 3 yards. We do a lot of commercial and go through about 70-80 tons per event and usually store around 200 tons at the shop.

We estimate that one CY = 1 Ton, depends on the salt, finer salt will weigh more course salt will weigh less. We go through 1,600 to 1,800 Tons per season
