There are plenty of guys here that have put a v-plow on a truck that it wasn't "recommended" for... is your truck an ext cab or crew cab? I'm not sure what the 8.1 litre weighs but alot of guys running duramax's run that exact setup. And I'm pretty sure the duramax is heavier.... You may need to install the plow yourself though, not too many dealers will put a plow on a truck that isn't "recommended"..

the 8.1liter is a great engine, the gas equivalent of the duramax, a couple of things for you to know, you have a allison transmission with that unit, and the same suspension as the duramax of that year too, i would be very surprised if they said they couldn't set up a plow on that unit.

Great for hauling. Not so good for plowing with big plows.

I used to plow with a guy with an 8.1, he had a 8' fisher on there with aftermarket Torsion bars, keys, shocks, and 800# of ballast. I couldn't imagine putting anything bigger on that truck, but maybe there is someone on here that has. I know they weigh more then the Duramax if that tells you anything.

You need to answer the cab question... Reg Cab, Ext Cab or Crew.... The SS Xtreme V weighs in the ballpark of 876 lbs... not even 100 lbs more than a straight 8 X-blade... They factor in the equation that if you have a Crew Cab you'll be plowing with 5 people in the car.... I would go for it and make sure the plow comes off when you arent plowing...

8.1 Liter/6 Speed Allison, 1000# ballast, rear air bags, timbrens, t-bars all the way up. And an 8'6" Western MVP up front. no problems at all.

    Can a 94 Chevy 2500 handle the V plow?

I have a 94 Chevy 2500 pickup (ext cab, long bed), and would like to put a good snowplow on it. I like the V plows, but most of the manufacturers' sites do not recommend an 880 lb V plow. Instead, they recommend a 720 lb straight blade. The guys at the dealers tell me different things, depending on who I talk to. Would the V plow damage my truck and under what circumstances? I plow long gravel driveways.

I have the same truck, except a 97. Been running a 8-6 XtremeV for 2 full seasons. No major issues.

i have an 2500hd with an 8.1 and i am running an 8foot6 ezv on it... the truck handles it fine the only thing i notice with the 8.1 is, with all the power the wheels tend to spin alot

Got a crew cab short bed 8.1, boss V-XT with the 8.2 Does fine, not problems with the weight and dealer installed. they wouldn't put a 9.2, not like i wanted it, but there are many non HD 2500s running around here with 9.2 V's. friend has one with 180k on it and still runs and works fine. An 8.5 should be fine on it!
