Elsewhere I have read to use the pressure test port on the left side, or should I put a inline manifold , or a bung in pan. I plow and tow with this so want to do what I cam to keep it going strong.

Here's an idea. How about after the cooler?

I believe the test port provides the best all around number. Temperature of the fluid varies widely.

Hottest going into the cooler, which is a good number to know for peak fluid temp.

Coolest coming out of the cooler. That will tell you how well the cooler is working. Also a good number to know.

But the test port will give an overall indicator of the temperature situation.
