Well so far with all the snow here in Ottawa, Ontario ( over 170 cm total now ) I have my views on the new Fisher XLS blade we bought this fall. The expandable wings are a neat feature to play with, & they do work well for pushing large amounts of snow in scoop mode. Also great for windrowing because you can have one wing angled to prevent trail off. And for the flexible poly material used on the wings are wearing out fast!!! As there is no trip edge on the wings, this material seems to wear out uneaven for some reason?
As for the plow weighing in at 1000 pounds, it didn't seem to scrape that hard until I installed a cutting edge to the blade last week. Now it does a better job for a cleaner scrape.
Now the X-Blade is what I plan to buy next year because it features a mean 75 degree attack angle for better ice breaking & scraping. The stainless steel version of course! It is a lighter blade though & I will put side wings on it too. So pretty much, the more the attack angle of a plow, the better the scrape you get. I do like the xls, but just make sure you have a cutting edge on it if you decide to buy one. Oh, & it uses loooots of hydraulic fluid for the 5 cylinders it has.
