Question for you Chevy guys looking at 2001 Chevys with the gas 6.0 L motor one has 3.73 and one has 4.10 gearing the one with the 4.10 is a better deal but just wondering if the fuel mileage will suffer. Do all the 6.0s have the four cylinder shut down?

Tthe one with the 3.73 must be a strait 2500 (8600) gvwr not sure if they even still made those in 2001? the 4.10 gear truck could be a HD2500 9200gvwr none of the 2500 6.0's ever had the cylinder deactivation that I know of. Don't think the milage will be much different!

    I don't believe the 6.0 in the HD's have cylinder deactivation , I know mine doesn't.

I take it you are talking about 2011 and not 2001 here (slight confusion from the title and your post).

3.73 vs 4.10 is really up to you. But, I will as this. Do you tow often and or heavy loads? say 10k plus? If so, get the 4.10s as the towing capacity is roughly 4000 lbs greater with them versus the 3.73 gears. And going down the highway in 6th, its around a 150-200 rpm difference between the two, so mileage should be similar.

And the 6.0 Vortec in the HD trucks is non-active fuel management (good thing too...some 5.3s with have oil consumption issues, etc).

No cylinder de-activation in 3\4ton truck. 4.10's are much better then the 373's, mileage will be no worse!
