so you don't need a controller? By my math according to the site you linked to, the complette unit is $4974.95 before shipping or install.

And yes any dealer should warranty the plow but I know for my customers we do warranty work 24/7 for outside purchases it's 9-5 M-F by appointment and with factory pre-approval only.
I do believe everything is included in the online site. (mount, wiring, controller etc.) except a joystick or smart touch2 is another $100. I also have no idea which one is better.

As most of the other guys mentioned yes you will take a back seat at the local dealer for any necessary warranty work if you purchase from a dealer other than him, so be sure to take that into consideration.

Since your considering purchasing from Equipment Specialists specifically, worrying about a "shaky deal" or getting "ripped off" isn't an issue as your dealing with a very reputable dealer. You yourself may have never dealt (or even heard of them) but I can assure you your dealing with a good company with a reputable history.

As to the large difference in prices, much of it is due to geographics as well as the volume the dealer does and the local market itself. Plow prices are rather geographically dependent. For example, we're basically in the same boat here. You can't touch an 8.2 VXT here at the local Boss dealer for less than $5800 cash and carry. But as you've discovered they can be purchased in other regions for considerably less... which is why I buy from a dealer thats either 300 or...1000 miles away.
Thank you, that makes me feel better if I do end up buying form them.

Hi

I would present your online price to the local dealer and see if he can work with you, sometimes a unit sold for a bit less is better than a unit not sold at all, especially in this present economy.

JMHO
Well here is the deal with that. A few weeks ago I called the dealer around town on the phone and just flat out asked how much they charged for 8'2 V's. The guy told me $5700 installed. Then two days ago I went in with a buddy of mine who also wants to buy an identicle plow, to see if they would give us a deal. So then he says I can buy a plow by myself for somewhere in the neighborhood of $5900 installed, and if we both bought one it would be around $5700-5750. That kind of raised my doubts since I called and got two different prices. I understand that the price of metal went up I believe in the last few weeks, but still the prices online have not gone up too much. I will still try asking them if they can do some work on the price since online is so much cheaper, but based off the experience I had with them a couple days ago, I don't see that happening.

if you can save more than 800 - 1000 consider it...but trying to beat your brains in over 300 isnt worth it

I got a quote online for a western mvp 9.5 ft with back drag edge and curb gaurd delivered to my house for $5,200 + 350 local install, the same plow at the local dealer is $6800 installed?? that is 1250 chaeper online with the same guy installing it~!!

Surprised he's willing to install a cash & carry plow that you purchased elsewhere.

I'm surprised he's doing it for that price:eek: Cheap install for an outside purchase:nod:
Are you basing that price off what he quoted if you purchased the unit from him. If so you might want to double check the install cost. I know we discount installs on plows purchased from us.

I purchased my first Blizzard from some Guy I met on the internet. Worked out good. Now he is my dealer. He is only 492 miles away. The service is unbelievable.

I also got a quote of $350 for install only if I brought a plow in. I'm not sure what I would rather have between the 9'2 Boss V XT or the Wester 9.5' V.

Well there a few dealers that sell both around town, so I am not too too worried about that.

My truck is an 07' Ram diesel with a level kit installed with longer, heavy duty coils installed in the front.

But the one who provides the best service for whichever brand they sell is the one you want.
I agree, I don't have too much experience with either of them (this is my first plow) so I am not too sure. One in particular has given me two different quotes on the same plow which kind of makes me wonder. Other than that I have no clue.

Please also do not forget that purchasing online

helps avoid local and State sales tax. When your spending $5K that also can add hundreds in additional savings, just throwing it out there, not necessarily a recommendation...

Then you want to feel the dealers out first to give them a chance before choosing one brand over another.

As far as the differences in the plows themselves your only real choice is if you want a chain lift or cylinder lifted type plow. Otherwise both will do the job.

Ah I forgot that Wester has chain, I thought I always heard cylinder was better? I guess that's another thing to break during a snow storm though

Actually there's less components and moving parts on a cyl lift Boss than ANY chain lift plow out there.

But the lift style is a personal thing. Some prefer one and some prefer the other. Just like chocolate and vanilla.

Thank you, again I didn't know. I might do some calling around and get a quote for a 9'2 XT and then compare that to the online price, instead of comparing an 8'2 V here to the XT online.

Wise decision...gives the local dealer an opportunity to prove or disprove his valuability...especially when comparing apples to apples. ;)

Good idea particularly since you're not locked in on one particular size style plow, talk to the dealer about what he has in stock. Last year's inventory, per-season purchases, it's always a better deal if it's on the shelf.
