Does anyone know the proper grade for a softball field. I think it should be sloped toward home plate instead of crowned like a baseball field, but my memory is not as good as it used to be. Thanks, Mike
Welcome to Lawnsite! What a coincidence, there are now 3 active members from Ramstein AB, Germany on here. I should get a commision Chuck!
Anyway, this is what I dug up on the net. It came from the official 1999-2000 rule book from the American Fastpitch Association. There was some other diagrams and helpful info on the site also. I guess the mound does have to be a little bit higher and drain to the outside. Too bad that hump around the infield is in the way.
Good thing we got a good grader operator!
SECTION 13. The infield shall be level, but to allow for natural surface drainage, it is recommended that the entire playing area be graded one percent from the edge of the pitcher's plate to the sideline boundaries of the field.
