I have an 01 Dodge and I am thinking of getting a newer (or new) truck.
I like my unimount (and its paid for!)
Is it a really bad idea to cut and re-weld the mount to fit a different truck's frame?
Is it even possible to do without spending a fortune?

Depends on how creative you are with metal fabrication and welding. It is certainly possible. Many people who upgrade to new trucks, for which there is no uni truck side mount, will buy an ultra mount truck mount and then put the ultra to uni adapter on it. Personally I think they suck but they are better than nothing, and... you can always buy a new ultra mount and your truck will be ready for it.
