Canadians are less confrontational and polite... They'll spend money on polite signs so they don't have to talk to you...

I am in New York Buffalo and most fences "Good Looking side " needs to face neighbor. Here looks like that fence would be wrong as other side would not show posts so theoretically look better. One other aspect if there were Horizontal supports it would be easy to climb into that yard, if they were on inside homeowner of fence is better proteced.

I disagree, IF you are saying the side of the fence we are looking at should be on the inside (house side) of the fence. IMHO that side we are viewing IS the better-looking side. It has a more finished appearance and I like the bordered look of all of those angled cut boards. If you were to look at the other side, you would see all of those angled cuts meeting each other edge-to-edge on the posts and at the top there would be a horizontal line of angled cuts seeming to (IMHO) look like it was unfinished. Sort of like ooops, I forgot to cap all these boards. Also, all of the fasteners would be face-nailed into the posts and top rail. Nothing attractive about face-nailed fasteners IMHO.
Now the straight vertical stockade fences I would agree that the posts should be on the inside (house side) of the fence.

It's always been my experience that whoever wants/ pays for the fence gets the ugly side.
In this case the commercial client didn't want customers looking at the neighbours yard from his parking. It is not well maintained, you can probably tell from the clusterf of a tree taking up a third of it. It would seem from the peanut gallery that the ugly side is subjective in most cases..
