any 7.3L ford "experts" in here? My dump has taken to smoking a light gray colour quite heavily. No coolant loss, no power loss, consistant fuel millage. When you pop the oil fill cap it smokes a bit out if it, PCV valve is pritty full of oil but the intake is dry, turbo seals appere to leak a little but not enough to cause the volume of smoke, and its gray not blue like oil should be. The smoke looks and smells like fuel, not oil or coolant. The fuel filter canister is clean, it had new filters in the fall when it passed an e test and nothing was wrong then.
    265 000km's on it also.

you could have a leaking injector

A leaking injector with no power loss? Would it through a code? The check engine light isn't on

I wonder when the filters were changed if the bowl was competely drained before the new filter was installed?? If not some debris might of by-passed the filter and screwed up an injector. Always drain the bowl. Now I think of it the 7.3l might be self draining.

You could have a tip broke on an injector and causing it to over fuel a little. As long as it fire when it should then there will be no codes. Probably need to get it on a computer to diagnose further.

When does it take to smoking?? Only on break or does it do it anytime it wants to? Regulars or menthols??

Injector buzz test would be good.
    Injector o-rings
    Pcm undate.
    Turbo leak
    To low boost psi

Buzz test will just tell you if the solenoid on the injector fires and if the o rings are leaking you would have a hard start/no start complaint.

Check for boost leaks and the condition of the turbo.

broken inj tip will fuel knock and black smoke, turbo leak can be heard hissing, inj solenoid will cause constant misfire no smoke, bad middle inj o-rings will burn motor oil with the fuel cuasing high oil consumption and almost never happens on 97 and up powerstrokes, you never said if it is misfiring - not running smoothly, a misfire with fuel smell smoke tells me fuel is being injected and not burning which is a compression issue. if it runs smoothly and smokes it probably has injector issues- worn barrells and plungers.in any case you need a good scan tool to do injector cut out ,cyl balance tests and all the engine running tests.

It runs smooth, no real oil consumption. It pulls good, goes down the highway well, as it sits idling it seams to smoke more than when your really on it
