Just seeing if anyone has any ideas on what would make my 97 S-Duty with powerstroke in it smoke in the morning when first started until you drive it down the road for about a minute then no smoke the rest of the day . It looks like white smoke , the engine runs great , doesn't burn any oil, it just smokes badly in the morning. Any thoughts? Thanks

Your glow plugs are probably starting to weaken. In the winter months you will notice a bit more smoke but it is usually normal. If the truck is hard to start than your glow plug relay may be bad. It is a relay on top of the motor that looks like an old starter motor relay. The glow plug relays are notorious for going bad. They usually run about 50.00. You can NOT use a ford starter motor relay. Although they look identical they are not heavy duty enough to withstand up to 2 minutes of heavy current flow to the glow plugs. Feel free to give me a call at (219) 808-9328 any time.

Also, go to www.thedieselstop.com It is a forum like this but deals solely in Ford diesels.
