This is not my truck. I am considering buying it. Problem is that the current owner is saying that truck is stuck in 4H. Regardless of the fact that the manual locking hubs are in the unlock position. He said, the Tcase needs to be rebuilt. I am tending to believe that statement. Any opinions on this. Also, if this is the problem. What is the cost factor? How painful will this be or will it?

Truck has very low miles 38,500. Frame, dump body, frame, frame for plow and plow itself were all sandblasted and refinished. Truck looks sharp.

i'm not sure what model t-case came in those truck but it could be as simple as misadjusted or frozen leakage for the shifter . might wanna look closer into it that how my buddy scored a case back hoe the owner thought i needed a headgasket all it needed a starter

Call a transmission shop or two and see what they would charge for a rebuild. I would bet it just needs a part and it's not worn out at 38K.
transfer cases are not real hard to change. You just need lifting help and a little wrenching skill.
