I just bought a stake body truck with the 6.9L in it. The tach doesn't work right, and I was wondering if it was the speed sensor? If you guys think it is, where is the sensor located?

the tachs on the ford diesels are run off of a impulse sensor in the alternator, itis probably a chaffed wire or broken connector

Was it only the 7.3L's that used the sensor behind the oil fill? If the 6.9 do use the alternator sensor, do these sensors go bad? I don't have the truck near me to look, so I like to know what to take with me when I go up to work on it, so I can get it inspected.
