hi and thanks for all replies in advance.
    - we own a 1997 Chevy 3500 with a 6.5 turbo diesel
    - we've been noticing lately that upon a start up the truck is sputtering when starting, but after it warms up it drives as normal.
    – While sputtering it lets out a whole bunch of white smoke
    – We took it to a mechanic, he tells me that it needs a new injector pump
    – I was those always under the impression that when needing an injector pump the truck should be stalling out which it is not
    - any ideas if it could be anything else would be helpful.

First thing from my 6.5's leads to PMD.

Have you replaced or relocated the PMD?

If you have in fact replaced the PMD since the problem, if you can complete the following info, I can get to your exact problem very quickly...

    • Need model number on the Injection pump (starts DS4 or DB2......).

    • Do you have an EGR on the engine? (An F or an S engine code 8th VIN digit)

    • Air Filter condition

    • Fuel filter condition (freshly changed, mileage since changed).

    • Location of PMD/FSD? (ex. on pump/remote over intake, behind bumper).
    1. If remote PMD is mounted, describe wiring harness (homemade or purchased from which vendor).
    2. Indicate the location and condition of the FSD/IP grounding wire

    1. Service Engine light does glow during start/cranking/bulb check: Yes/No

    • Have you scanned for engine codes?
    1. List exact results on engine codes.

    • Are you experiencing Stalling?
    1. Describe the event (upon startup only, down the road, hit a bump, etc...)

    • Indicate fuel that you are using: Bio-Diesel, #2 Diesel, SVO/WVO, other

    • Upon unscrewing fuel cap, do you have a large vacuum formed in the tank? Yes/No

LOL, I used to keep spares in the rear seat pocket... how quickly a part like that would leave you high and dry spinning the motor with no start.
