I have a race car with a worked 350 chevy engine in it, not sure what year the motor is... oil was leaking out the rear main seal area... so we took the motor apart and there is no rear main seal that we can see. The crank has a flange on the end, and the only seal in the area is for the oil pan. It looks like there may be a seal behind the flange... but haven't taken anything more apart to know for sure. Does anyone have any ideas on the year of the motor... or what i should do?

It's likely a pre-'86 two piece main seal engine. Pull the oil pump and rear main cap off...you'll see half the seal will be in the main cap, the other half will be in the block.
