The switch for Aux lamps is for roof clearance lights. If you did not get them as an option GM still wires the truck so they are easy to add. Not sure what the the wire harness by the tank is for.

The clearance lights if you have them come on with the headlights... the aux. light swittch is for a roof beacon... it's part of the plow prep package. the wiring should be up in the roof and there ia a relay in the pillar.. you can hear it click when you push the switch.

Yeah, wolfie is right. It is the power switch for when you put a lightbar on the roof or beacon.

Trail............The wire set up near the gas tank is
the 5th wheel hookups (i forget the option code).
The aux. light switch is indeed for the roof beacon.
The wires run up the rear drivers side pillar. Thats
where the relay is. The wires are deadheaded up
in the headliner. Check out this link for set up.

I just did the same. I haven't bought my new lights yet.
I'm planning on getting the Federal Signal Highlighter.

TRAIL........I use a magnetic one from napa. I put 2
female ends on the truck wiring and male ends on
    the beacon.
I lead them outta the headliner plug it in and lead
the wires out the door jamb. Then tuck the wires
back in the headliner when not needed.......
