2015 GMC 2500HD 6.0 gas starter issue

Truck has 78k miles. Battery is new. When starting the truck cold, the starter continues to run even after I let off the key. The truck starts and the starter stops by itself. Is this a computer controlled thing? Interestingly, it never does it when using the factory remote start.

Some GM ignition switches stick. I dealt with it for awhile, then replaced the key cylinder. That was at 230k miles though.

Maybe try some graphite to lube it.

Im thinking it has an ignition sensor on it.
My wifes traverse does the same thing, it seems like it continues to crank until it fires, even with the key released.
It doesnt bind or grind the starter, just an extended crank..
I can't remember which vehicle it is, but I have or drive one that does the same thing. It's a bit disconcerting but I guess computers know best.
