Just repaired a truck today in which the power mirror switch caught fire.I have seen a few other trucks do it as well, all of these are work\plow trucks.

The GM dealer says these will be covered by an impending recall affecting almost 600,000 vehicles, most of the being US vehicles. They will repair the condition, and install an additonal fused harness to protect against future shorts.

This recall will include most 1997/1998 Full size C\K pickups and Suburbans,Jimmy\Blazers,and some Astro and Safari vans.

Just though some of you chevy guys would want a heads up.

Chris, Ran into several melting drivers/pass window switches on 1999+ new body cheve's. All were plow trucks that used the windows frequently while plowing. None of them shorted out and blew fuses or caught fire but had one melt down and quit working intermittently and the other 2 would quit working as they warmed up. Dealers replaced under warr but no recalls. Thanks for the heads up on the mirror switch. Jerre
