I have bought a 79 f150 4x4 in good shape it need a few things like rear breakes. and other stuff, but the owner did not know if the motor is a 351 or a 400 he is not the original owner eather, how do you tell the difference? I am planning on using this to plow snow for driveways once i find a plow for it.what do you think?

http://home.earthlink.net/~bubbaf250/parts/parts02.html Read under the colum "Crankshafts". It's true though, the 351 and 400m engines look exactly the same on the outside. The only differences are the crank and pistons. I always thought the 1/2 tons had the 351m or 300 I6 but I don't think that's totally true. I got a 78 f150 with the 351.
