There is a guy who has a stainless steel western salter thats 12 yrs. old for $350.00 bucks. He says he only ran it one season. and also said he replaced the motor once already. Just want to know what you guys think. It seems cheap to me. but its 12 yrs old and i would think salters have come a long way in that time. Thanks, Ken

It depends on a few things. 1. being how does it look, and what kind of shape is it in? 2. What are your needs? 3. How much are you looking to spend on a spreader?

It sounds like a great price for the machine. You could probably change out the bearings and tune it up and be alright at least for a few seasons if you aren't going to run the pi$$ out of it. But if you need a machine to put down 5 tons of salt per storm you may want to look into a newer one.

Whats the spreader look like? I would think if it's in decent shape and looks good you may want to buy it. I think as long as you change the bearings (very cheap) and tune up the motor (assuming it still works) and check the drag chain (should still be good if it has only been used 1 season) you could still get a few seasons out of it.

It is a tailgate spreader, not a v-box. holds 800 lbs. It attaches to the tailgate attachment points and rests where the liscence plate is.

Check the electric motor to make sure it operates and the shaft isnt frozen up

here is a pic of the spreader. Price was $350.00 and it came with the mounting bracket, no wiring or speed control. Good deal? I figured I would blast the brackets n paint them. then bring it to the local western dealer and have hime wire it up and make sure everything is functional.

Not a deal plus no controller or wiring. Keep looking you can find something much newer for about the same money. IMO
