It's kinda tough to help without info on the truck robo...

"1/2 ton" doesn't tell anyone much... it's kinda like going to the doctor and saying "I'm hurtin Doc, whats wrong with me?"

What year?
What engine?
How many miles?
Manual or auto?
Have you done anything yet to try and rectify the problem?

I look at his another thread it is 2002 1500 5.3 X-cab

I am not expert with gm but 5.3 is 350 engine or different?

I am not understand what you say that it start then stop.

You sat in truck then try start it run at 2,000 rpm? did you push gas pedal to get 2,000 rpm? Then it make noise like backfired then stop?

Do you have light on dashboard say engine is service?

I have idea why not you try remove air filter then try start then see if it is air filter? What last time you change air filter?

airflow sensor fix

it sounds like the mass airflow sensor got detached somehow. I have unplugged mine before and it does just what you say. The only difference is that my engine didnt have any power when it was unplugged. The airflow sensor might just be malfunctioning when its cold due to you having to replace it. Hope this helps. Good luck with it

withut any truck info A common cause of the problem as described is 1 of 2 things. Idle air control valve (IAC for short) or the cold start valve. But that is just an educated guess as I have no pertinent info. Mechanic for over 20 yrs

I know you said the light is only on when its cold out, and that you need a new O2 sensor. However, have you had the codes pulled since this started happening? I would lean towards the IAC or map.
