I finally got my dealer to tell me what that bolted cover was between the cab and engine compartment. It's for the clutch makes access, and being that i drive an automatic I drilled a hole through it to feed my wiring. I used a 1/2" hole saw (metal) without the pilot bit. I went large because I'm going to feed more wire later and I have an old "boot" that I can cover and plug with. You can use a smaller hole saw but use the pilot bit.

I just ran mine thought an existing hole in the firewall.
No drilling, cutting, grommet or boot needed.
