why do you pay sales tax for salt shipped from another state?

    You order anything from out of state.... computer, ebay, supplies, shirts, vinyl for trucks, lawn mower, plows etc.. you pay a shipping freight cost and not tax. You pay tax in your own state.

    Why would you have to pay YOUR state sales tax up front AND freight for salt supplies for a truck to ship directly to you in your state, coming from another state? Why do THEY collect sales tax in another state to then pay your state?

    I thought by paying freight for a whole truck of salt vs local purchase we'd save at least because were not paying tax from our local supplier... ?

    If the company you bought from has any facilities in your state, you pay tax. Shouldn't matter though, in most states you'd be paying use tax on it anyway...
