    Whats the Ultimate Battery?

I personally Don*t Go by Brand Names & here Locally Wal-Mart Sells a GOOD as any Heavy Duty BATTERY Price Lacally--$69.95--1000 Cold Cranking AMPS I stopped Buying my Batteries from Auto Stores Due to the CRAP You receive upon Returning a Bad One! & at Wal-Mart You don*t have to WAIT until they Open as there Open 24/7 & they give YA a New One! w/ Out the Hassel! I have ONE of Wal-Marts in My Car thats lasted way over their Garrantee & its Still Going--my Plow Truck is a 96 Model Ford F-350 & it has the Twin Batteries that came in IT but when I Do Need New? I*LL replace them w/ Wal-Marts Due to my Above Explanation--I dono? about You Guys? every FALL I have a Local Starter & Alternator Man Check? all my Starters & Alternators & Re-Build & Modify as Necessary just to be Sure! as I Don*t desire to have to Crawl under any of my Equipment in the COLD & SNOW to Remove & Re-Place any thing!--OleTower--

I personally like the Optima line of batteries. Don't forget the extra weight savings up front too when you run two of them.

I run 2 Orbital batts, there Optima clones.
They look the same and are built the same expect for the color.
There rated at 1000cca, 750 cold.

There superior to anything wall-mart offers even their ever start batts.
It does not matter how good the warranty is if the batt goes bad in the middle of your route. You do not have time to deal with a bad batt.

Spend a little more for the Orbitals/Optimas it is worth it and they will out live the wall-mart specials.

Lets try to discuss why one batt is better than the other.
I know we all get sucked into the
    is topurplebou
    is not:bluebounc
    is to:redbounce

But let's(I'll) give it a try?

Some of the difference between a wet batteries IE the Lead/ acid batteries and the dry wafer style of battery like the Optimas.

When you use a lead acid battery even if it is "sealed" it needs a vent.
Explosive gases can be vented during heavy use.
It can leak acid if it is tipped over or shook.
The plates can break off from vibrations caused by plowing causing the battery to go bad.
Venting gasses are corrosive to wiring and every thing else under your hood.

    The Wafer style. Optima's

Is truly a sealed battery you can mount it in any position, on it's side upside down and it will not leak. even under water.
It can be discharged and rapidly charged with out giving off any gasses.
Well not cause any corrosion from giving off gasses.
The cells are not prone to breaking from vibration.
They will out last a lead acid batteries two to one.

These are just some of the differences.

Snofarmer has some very good points!

You forgot they can run down to zilch and come back with no damage like 99.9 wet batteries. And If you bang a lead acid battery when it getting older but working fine the calcium deposits beak off and fall to the bottom were they instant short out cells. I could see that plowing quite easily.

Sears platinum was the best battery after I did my research. Anti-vibration, sealed, 930 cc amps and most important in plowing, 135 reserve capacity. Cost 179.00
  17. consumers report

I looked up the last info from CR

refered to a group 34/78 size-- Diehard Platinum 50090 $180
highest rating for life-cycle testing , reserve capacity, and CCA
the waranty is 48 mo complete exchange

Refered to a waffer technology and is no-maint ( same as Optima??)

    I am looking for one
  18. bought the last Diehard Platinum

There are many opinions here and every where about batteries
I am going to provide feedback thru the season.

I am going to try and use this one battery .
And skip the second one that I previously planned.

    The published info is impressive.
Not only is this battery sealed. It can be installed on its
    side or upside down (why?).
And it can therefore be inside a cab.

If nothing else, the 48 mo full warranty is impressive.
I was never going to get another battery from Sears, but this
    is unique.

    Recommend you research this one.

The ultimate battery is the Odyssey....hands down. It's what the military uses, but it is also the most expensive. Optimas are good, but expensive as well. This is a post I made on another thread:

Optima's aren't necessary unless you off-road a lot. They're meant to withstand excessive shock and being inverted. If you're plowing with a street truck, any name brand high CCA battery will do fine. Most name brand batteries are all made by Johnson Controls anyway.

Walmart Everstart Maxx 65N; 850 CCA
    Motorcraft® silver BXT-65-850
    Auto Zone (Duralast Gold)
    Interstate Mega-Tron Plus
    Toyota (TrueStart)
    Mitsubishi (Diamond Car Care)
    Advance Auto (Autocraft Titanium)
    Costco (Kirkland Signature)
    Pep Boys (ProStart & Energizer)
btw, Johnson also mfg. Optima brand

Wherever you can find the cheapest price on any of the above batteries is where you should buy.
