I just bought a new UltraMount and was wondering what type of fluid you ran. Is the Western fluid that much better than just ATF fluid?

    Yes,

When it gets really cold the paraffin in the Atf can/will clog your filter.

Atf will thicken as the temp drops the hydraulic fluid is formulated differently so it will flow at lower temps.

Do not use ATF in a new Ultramount Flowstat hydraulic system. They're designed for low viscosity plow fluid.

Any of the Premium Snow plow fluids are better then ATF, even the cheap blue stuff is better then ATF. The only transmission fluid you could use is BMW's and it's more expensive then any snowplow fluid. They like many other manufacturers aren't using old fashion ATF in automatic automotive transmissions any more. Using ATF is a recipe for disaster.

Whoever's fluid you use (Snoway is the best:cool: don't listen to snofarmer:nono: ) Drain all the existing fluid out, don't forget the lines and rams.
I suggest flushing with Meyer's Hydraflush between oil changes. Hydraflush is compatible with all hydraulic fluids.
