Looking at buying a mvp off a 88' chevy 3500 I have a 98' 3500 with a unimount mount on it. Will the wiring work on my truck?

You provided too little information to answer. There are two sides to the wiring: control / power and headlights. Certainly the headlight wiring will not be the same over a ten year model year spread but the control and power side might be OK. You said that you are considering an MVP and want to put it on a truck with a UNI setup on it. Needless to say, if the new and old plows were both UNI MVPs then yes it will work as there was only one electrical option for that. But if the newer MVP is an ultra-mount then it will probably NOT be compatible. The first few ultra MVPs came with two plug relay electrical but most were three plug four port isolation module systems. Then there is the possibility that you are looking at an MVP+ which is a two plug multiplex system. Once again this system is not compatible. Look at the number of plugs on the new MVP, two or three? Also look at the hydraulic unit and see if it has a black plastic shroud or three rectangular valve covers. If it has a shroud it's an MVP+
