Engine in a Chey 350 froze uplast cold snap. Blew out a freeze plug. Got that fixed!!! Yahoooo! Filled 'er up, never saw the water moving. When she got warm, water GUSHERED out from the raditior fill, I poured in some more, filled 'er back up. No water movement then just like Old Faithful, BLOOOOO, look down in the rad...water way down again. Fill er back up. Old faithful is gushering HOT h2o. Could the water pump shaft sheared when it got too hot when froze??? I see no movement of coolant!

Hopefully it's just an airlock.Uncommon on a smallblock, but it can happen.Did the t-stat open ?Try filling it slowly, and make sure the stat opens, then top it up.

It could also be a bad t-stat,maybe it got damaged in the freeze-up.

One quick check is to pull the heater hose coming out of the intake and start it up for a sec.If the pump is good it will push coolant out.
