Can anyone recommend a walk-behind spreader that actually works for spreading traction material other than salt? I'm talking sand, cinders, very fine gravel or stone chips...

I've used a Buyer's broadcast spreader which is the same thing as this Salt Dogg:

The problems are (1) it doesn't spread sand well, (2) you need really good traction for the drive wheel to turn the spreader/broadcaster. If you're pushing the spreader on ice, the wheel won't get enough traction to spin the spreader mechanism.

I only do a few driveways that have a couple of steep icy sections that need traction material. I'm not in the market for a tailgate mounted unit.

    Thanks,
    Dave
