I have a 1972 Chevy 350 and I went to go work on it today and started it up and pulled it into the garage fine, but when I went to take it out it started fine but I could not get any gear to work. I did not do any work on the tranny or around it, any ideas before I replace the transmission?

Besides the obvious (fluid level, linkage fell apart, driveshaft fell apart...)... almost sounds like pump failure if the tranny does absolutely nothing.

    I assume this is a TH350 transmission?

My first guess is that the linkage fell off and you are not really shifting the transmission into gear. Also, if its a 4x4, the transfer case could also be in neutral.
