    Okay...

So I had some time so I got my oil changed on my '04 GMC 2500HD... it has 3070 miles on it, and when they checked the transmission fluid it was low. They had to add a 1-1/2 quarts to bring it up to normal. Is this normal, or should I be looking for trouble in the near future.

Had the tranny fluid ever been checked before it was serviced? Perhaps it was not filled properly at the factory. If this is the case, the factory and dealer are to blame. The dealers are supposed to check all of this in dealer prep before the vehicle goes out on the lot. When we got our new Ford F150 at work, we noticed the trans was slow to engage in drive and reverse. I had the first service done on it at 1,500 miles, and our mechanic said it was nearly 2 quarts low. It has been fine ever since. I would say if there are no leaks on your truck, it was probably incorrectly filled at the factory. Good luck.

That is what I figured, I have not noticed the truck "bleeding" yet, but I will be keeping a closer eye on it now.

I was there when they checked it, I it was like 5 minutes after I had driven in so the tranny should have been warm...

You know on my truck it seems like it's hard to get a good reading for the trans fluid. I checked it Sunday after plowing for about 4 hours and it looked low, I ignored it being that the truck is bone dry underneath and only has 9k miles. I checked it again Monday morning and it looked fine. I dunno.

Have you looked to see if the transmission has fluid residue on it anywhere? 1.5 qts seems kinda high but like someone else said, it may have always been low. The thing I noticed on the newer Chevy trucks is that there isn't much varience on the dipstick between low and full.

Well I finally got around to actually checking my fuid level my self today... well guess what it was WAY OVER FULL.... so I go over to the place I that added the fluid. I was pretty calm at first. They check it and see that it is over full so a worker goes and finds his boss hes says to suck it out. The get some sort of air operated vacuum tank and he tries to suck it out well nothing is coming up. He walks away so this other worker (who happened to be a female) starts playing with the vacuum thing, so no this has been like 15 minutes playing with this stuff so I am getting a little tweaked now. I am grumbling and happened to curse a bit, not at any one, just talking aloud. Well the woman must have heard me cause a bout 5 minutes later the boss (who is this little guy about 5'6")walks up to me with his chest all puffed up and this angry look on his face. He goes "You cursed at my Technician". so we go back an forth a bit I explain I am just a little pissed off about the situation so I was just venting a bit, not swearing at her. he then goes to me "well if you are going to be out of control I can get the cops here you can swear at them as they escort you out of here". I am like do what ever you want, but they are not going to arrest me for swearing. Now mind you I was not yelling or ranting or raving, I actually was pretty calm. Well any way I guess he realized I was right because his tone changed after that. The got the fluid at the proper level now. I had then document that THEY over filled it should any problems arise, I forced this issue since they did not want to document it. Never going to go there again, so lesson learned... I will always check the fluids myself before I let anyone add anything to my truck.

    Tranny is f'ed now...

So I take my truck out after this whole ordeal... well guess what.... If I go from Drive to Reverse there is now a 5 second delay before it engages... The truck almost stalls(transmission does not disengage) when I stop the truck at a light or stop sign... then I press the gas and the truck sits there then the transmission engages and it goes. I think my truck with 3150 miles has a cooked transmission because the @#$%% people who can not read a @#$% dip stick correct!!!!

I do not know, but I looked at the dip stick when they where done, it was just into the hashed region, At the time the transmission temperature guage read like 110 degrees

    Low trans fluid

I have had GMs since 1981 "NEW" and every one of them came with the trans fluid low and everyone had to added to at first oil change and everytime used the 4x4, why?? WHO Knows I added and kept on going with never having any problems and most have over 180000 miles on them.
